At the heart of the system is the compressor, where the refrigerant gas begins its journey. When you switch on the air con, this gas is compressed into a super-hot, high-pressure state. From there, it flows to the condenser, meeting fresh outside air and transforming into a cool liquid as it releases heat.
Next stop: the drier, which removes impurities, before the liquid reaches the expansion valve – the component you control when adjusting your dashboard temperature. Finally, the liquid enters the evaporator, where it turns into a refreshing vapour that’s blown into your cabin as crisp, cool air. Meanwhile, the refrigerant cycles back to the compressor to start the process again.
But here’s the catch: around 10% of air con gas escapes every year, meaning your system works harder, your engine strains more, and your fuel consumption rises. If your car is over two years old, it’s probably due a recharge.
Our Air Con Recharge Service restores efficiency by testing gas pressure and refilling the system, so you get maximum cooling power without wasting fuel.
